Anderson Captures Fourth in HCAC Indoor Championships

The Anderson University men's track and field team captured fourth place during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Championships in Cincinnati.

Anderson's fourth place finish in the indoor conference meet marks the best finish for the men's team since 2018.

Michael Sweigart claimed the conference title in the weight throw with a personal-record (PR) distance of 16.89 meters (55 feet, 5 inches). The sophomore from Alexandria also took second in the shot put with a PR throw of 15.57 meters (51 feet, 1 inch). Sweigart ranks 38th in the nation in the shot put.

COACH NIC HUFFMAN'S COMMENTS

•    Conference was the usual crazy day full of ups and downs, a full array of emotions and multiple types of exhaustion. I felt we did an overall terrific job of preparing to compete well because we had a lot of personal bests at the right time. The team rallied around each other for support and strength throughout the whole day, plus tremendous fan support.

•    The men really stepped it up this year. It was a total team effort, but all credit goes to them for their determination to grow into what they are now. This young team has a lot of promise. Climbing six spots in the conference in one year is a major achievement.

MICHAEL SWEIGART'S COMMENTS

I thought it was a great meet that had amazing competition. The other competitors were just as enthusiastic about competing, which made the competitions very electrifying and I felt they were fun to watch and be a part of.
