Elwood Golf Links recently celebrated its 5-year anniversary

200

Elwood Golf Links recently celebrated its 5-year anniversary of having the back 9 holes opened that resulted in the development of a $25 million dollar housing development built around the golf course.

This June, Elwood Golf Links also celebrated its 3-year anniversary of having all 18 holes opened.

There were a lot of moving parts to bring golf back to the City of Elwood.

This was a very important initiative to bring golf back to the City of Elwood as the course was established in 1924, but unfortunately the Elwood Country Club was closed prior the Jones Administration.

Some people just see a golf course and don’t fully understand the true economic driver that a golf course brings to a community.

The City of Elwood is very fortunate to have organizations like the Elwood Community Development Corporation (ECDC) that is not city related but rather a group of businessmen who look to positively promote growth in the City of Elwood.

By establishing an excellent working relationship with this organization, along with the Elwood Redevelopment Commission, the Elwood City Council, Cohoat and O’Neal Golf Management, the Jones Administrations was able to successfully accomplish bringing golf back to our great city.

Elwood Golf Links continues to see success as this year alone 3,500 rounds of golf have been played at the course.

In addition, the Elwood High School was able to bring back both Boys and Girls High School Golf teams, numerous charitable organizations have been able to have fundraisers, a Thursday Night Men's League and a Tuesday Night Elsa league have been established.

This helps improve the quality of life for all ages.  The city has seen further residential development to Bison Ridge.

By having new housing available, we have been able to welcome new families to our city and new students to our school system.

Like I said above, it took a lot of moving parts, and I am so thankful for all of these entities, and the Blue-Ribbon Committee that consists of Tom Austin, Mike Mengelt, Jerry Dunnichay, and Johnny Burnette.

We are looking forward to having Elwood Golf Links for many years to come!

-Mayor Todd Jones
