Alexandria Community School District recently issued the following announcement.

Beginning September 7th, students will not be required to quarantine if they are in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 unless they have symptoms.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Health issued new guidance this week related to contact tracing and quarantines at K-12 schools.

We will continue with our same procedures for contact tracing. This will include notifying parents and guardians if their student is in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19.

When parents and guardians are informed of their student being in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 they will be asked to monitor their symptoms. Students that do not have symptoms are not required to quarantine under the new guidelines. However, should parents or guardians prefer to keep students in close contact home from school, or their student is showing COVID-19 symptoms, they will need to inform their school to ensure their reason for being absent is marked as COVID.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 7th, any student that is in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 not experiencing symptoms can return to school. Students currently in quarantine due to being in close contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19 can also return on Tuesday, September 7th if they are not experiencing symptoms.

This new guidance only applies to school settings where everyone is masked. If students and staff are quarantined for contact outside of school, they cannot return.
